The snow is slowly coming down the mountains. It starts at the top and as winter approaches, it goes lower, and lower. We still haven't had snow in Estes but it is sure to happen soon. Temperatures at night are regularly in the 30s or low 40s. Day time temperatures have been in the 60s. Trail Ridge road was closed earlier this week but is now open again. This time of year, Trail Ridge will get significant snow and will be reopened after it is plowed. Eventually, plowing is impossible and the road is closed for the season. Its a beautiful time of year with the golden aspen and the bugling Elk. This coming weekend is the official Elk Fest in Estes. However, nobody seem to tell the Elk they need to wait. Today is the last of the Thursday morning Farmer's Market in downtown Estes. What will we do for fresh veggies after today?

Along Old Fall River Road, you will find a small parking area and trailhead. This is at the 16th switchback. There is only enough room for about 6-8 cars. Therefore, if you want to hike from this trailhead you need to get there early. It is very popular in the summer.
