Novembers can be exciting, interesting and romanic at the Overlook. One day it feels like summer, the next it feels like winter. It is not unusually to have 40 or 50 degree temperature changes in a single 24 hour period. It can be 60 degrees and snowing. Much of the snow is being blown down from the continental divide. Trail Ridge Road, the highest continuously paved highway in the US, is usually closed for the season by this time of the year. The Elk are still rutting and can be heard bugling in and around the Overlook. Many of the local animals are frantically searching for food before their winter hibernation. Elk, Deer and Birds are desparate for food. Many of the squirrels and chipmonks are already hibernating. Bears have already disappeared and are hiding away in their winter dens. The wind can become very strong during this time of year. Sun, wind, cold, heat, etc. makes this an interesting time. Most of the tourists are gone and the town feels more comfortable filled primarily with locals. There can be great sales downtown and the park is easy to negotiate. The new fallen snow on the mountains can be very romanic and scenic. This is a great time for a romanic visit where you can sit by the fire, take a leisurely soaking bath, enjoy the scenery, and detox in a private sauna.
