Owning a vacation home can be an adventure. We have been renting and restoring the Overlook for 8 years. During this time, we have met some amazing people. We feel truly blessed to own the Overlook and enjoy the labor of returning this historic property to its original significance. This is an ongoing project with no end in sight.
Many vacation rentals are owned by large property companies and managed by an organization. They are most frequently cleaned and maintained by additional outside organizations. This process might seem efficient. However, when managed in this manner, the property can lack timely maintenance and response to issues can be longer than desired.
When we purchased the property and committed to restoring it to its former glory, my wife and I agreed to do 100% of the work ourselves. We own the property. We provide 100% of the construction and maintenance. We are the only people who have ever or ever will clean the property. Also, one of our personal homes is directly next door. This allows us to know what needs to be done, provide timely repairs, and respond promptly to any issues. We tend to travel frequently and own additional properties around the country. When we take our trips, we block out the time on the calendar so that no one will book while we are traveling. We feel this is the best approach to have and maintain a 5-star vacation rental.
